Poultry LeASING pROGRAM
|
Come to my farm in Chisago County and spend time with me and my birds along with others who share our passion. I’ll teach you about poultry, the incubation process, how to raise chicks, what qualities to look for in the breed you selected and prepare you to show your poultry and to understand biosecurity (keeping your birds safe and healthy). In order for youth to get a good understanding of the poultry experience I would encourage a minimum of four visits to our farm between March and July on any of the 8 scheduled visiting opportunities. The leasing opportunity is intended for youth who have never owned or showed poultry, though others with poultry may take part in educational opportunities.
Chisago County 4-H will allow youth from any county from kindergarten to one year after high school to own or lease and show animals at our County Fair providing you and your birds are enrolled and registered. The cost to participate in 4-H is $25 per youth for the year with a $50 family maximum and scholarships are available based on financial need. The birds may either stay on my premises until the show, or you may raise them yourself after purchasing them. After the show, if they are not returning home with you I can help you find the birds a new home, as for NPIP biosecurity reasons I am not able to have them return to my farm.
