You have just retuned from a show with your birds and your friend's birds. You are not very happy with how your birds placed, and assuming you want to do better you take the judges advice and compare them to the Standered of Perfection and search for better birds for your breeding program.
The judge mentioned quality diferences but what does quality have to do with your birds. . .

Quality Differences
Their are three main types of qualitys. . .
--> Pet
--> Breeder
--> Show
Pet Quality
These birds, although they arn't the greatest for showing they still make great backyard pets. These birds have defects or disqualifications. They shouldn't be breed from in order to perpetuate the breed.
Breeder Quality
Birds that are good representations of the breed with a non-hatcing flaw (defects or disqualifications). One of my New Hampshire hens is nicly marked but missing half of her comb thanks to a rooster, because of this she is breeder quality otherwise she would be Show Quality.
Show Quality
Birds that have none or little defects they are very good representations of the breed.
Other Quality's
I would also like to mention that I have heard the term 4-H Quality being used by hatcherys these are probably lower quality Show Quality birds.
Production Quality is breed for the production of eggs or meat these birds probably are not Show or Breeder Quality.
Where Did You get your Birds?
Almost everyone is asked this, and for some fairs where members get all of their birds from the same hatchery and or breeder the similarity between the breds can be identical or impossible to tell apart. In shows like those, conditioning is very important . Look at the placings of the birds from each quality group and note which ones did better
Most hatcheries often have Pet Quality birds however when ordering large amounts you may receive a few quality birds, don't rely on this. Some hatcheries, Strombergs for example, has a Show Quality chick section.
If you want to win, going with private breeders would be a good idea. Price can determine the quality you get and if your hesitent about it, don't get it or see if you can go over and compare the parents to the Standard of Perfection.
Also note that your birds Condition and you {Depending upon what type of show your in} also affects your placing. So always do your best.

As you can see what you want can really impact what you need.
Lofty Dreams Poultry Quality
I only use Breeder and Show Quality birds in my Show Quality birds breeding projects. With the Production Quality breeders they are breed for egg and meat production they will probably not be Breeder or Show Quality.
